There is little meaning to this page other than the purpose of sharing
my thoughts on this particular subject, and perhaps giving others a new view of
my preferred art method.
Even with that in mind, as a digital artist I feel that it is necessary to write
on this (Even though I am most certainly not a writer). Not because my view is
the least bit compelling, but because I feel in my heart that it is true... And
it hurts me to see so many people with such a skeptical (If not hateful) view
of
digital art.
I have always loved art, but only first took it
|
to heart when I started learning how to use computers. I became fascinated by
the concept of visual arts through computers and over the past few years I have
put that fascination to work by experimenting with a variety of different computer
programs and art tools. I feel most passionate and creative while expressing myself
in this form, and hope that others come to appreciate my work as they would the
work of any other artist.
Which brings me to this: There has been some talk about whether or not 'digital
art' is in fact, real art. I have experienced this close-mindedness first hand
while attending fine art classes in college. Is it because of a lack of understanding
or perhaps intolerance for difference or change?
I feel that those who are persuaded to believe that 'digital art is not real art'
do not truly have an understanding of what real art is. What is real art? 'Art
is giving form to an idea, an emotion, a story. Art isn't about the things you
like. That's simply a passed time and not true art. Art isn't passion, art is
a way to breathe. Art is simply a language.' - Jay Lam
A man paints with his brains and not with his hands. - Michelangelo
Whether it be with a canvas or a monitor, a chisel or a mouse, clay or a pixel...
It is still real art, giving place to our imagination and our visions, and it
is most importantly, a small expression of man. If every artist painted in the
same fashion and viewed the world in the same way, perhaps it would not be art
at all.
Art arises when the secret vision of the artist and the manifestation of nature
agree to find new shapes. - Kahlil Gibran
So when the artistic endeavors of a digital artist are challenged or dismissed,
I can't help that the true meaning has been misplaced. Because I believe art is
not dependent upon the method, but rather, dependent upon the mind. |
